Interlacing two sets of threads at right angles, warp and weft, on a loom. Weaving clothed the ancient world, drove the machines of the industrial revolution, and survives at home on everything from a child's frame loom to a floor loom, carrying pattern traditions as distinct as tartan, ikat and tapestry.

Indistinct textile impressions from the Upper Paleolithic site of Dolni Vestonice suggest the skill is far older than any surviving cloth 1

Origin

Actual woven cloth survives from several separate early centers rather than one point of origin: plant-fibre textiles from Guitarrero Cave in Peru date to roughly 10,100 to 9080 BC, entirely independent of the Old World finds the craft's earliest-evidence fact already names. 1
